Hatha Yoga is the path of yoga that includes the well-known poses (asana) and breathing practices (pranayama).  In modern times, this approach is most often used to achieve some degree of physical fitness as well as relaxation.  Traditionally, though, Hatha Yoga is viewed as a preliminary but essential step toward Raja Yoga, the yoga aimed at reaching higher and higher states of awareness.  Jim's classes are guided by both approaches:  seeking cardiovascular and physical strength and flexibility as well as mental focus and clarity.

Jim believes strongly in yoga education. He has two 200-hour and one 500-hour yoga teaching certification.  He is one of the primary instructors in the Prana Vinyasa® teacher training program at both the 200 and 500-hour level.  At present, he chairs the school's Application Committee.  In addition to the physical and meditative aspects of yoga, Jim is very interested in the history and philosophy of yoga.  He is registered with the Yoga Alliance.
